Alongside its three core practice areas, the firm assists with disability benefit appeals and everyday notarial work.
ODSP appeals
A denial of Ontario Disability Support Program benefits is not the end of the process. There are strict deadlines — an internal review request, and then an appeal to the Social Benefits Tribunal — and missing one can close the file entirely.
The firm reviews the decision letter, identifies what the adjudicator relied on, gathers the medical evidence needed to answer it, and prepares and presents the appeal.
- Reviewing the denial or termination decision and the deadlines that follow from it
- Preparing the internal review request and the Social Benefits Tribunal appeal
- Working with your treating practitioners to assemble supporting medical evidence
- Representation at the hearing
CPP-D appeals
Canada Pension Plan Disability claims are frequently refused at first application, and again on reconsideration. The appeal route runs to the Social Security Tribunal, with time limits at each step.
The firm handles reconsideration requests and Social Security Tribunal appeals, and frames the medical record against the severe-and-prolonged test the decision-maker has to apply.
- Reconsideration requests following a refused application
- Appeals to the Social Security Tribunal, General Division and Appeal Division
- Medical and vocational evidence organized against the statutory test
- Coordination with any parallel disability or accident-benefits claim
Powers of Attorney
A power of attorney lets someone you trust manage your affairs if you cannot. Two documents are common in Ontario: one for property and finances, and one for personal care. They are only useful if they are properly signed, witnessed, and understood before they are needed.
The firm prepares powers of attorney for property and personal care, explains what each covers, and makes sure the documents fit your situation rather than using a generic form.
- Continuing power of attorney for property
- Power of attorney for personal care
- Advice on when each document takes effect and who can act
- Coordination with estate planning and real estate work
Notary & commissioner services
As a lawyer licensed by the Law Society of Ontario, Ilona is both a notary public and a commissioner for taking affidavits. Appointments are usually short and can typically be scheduled the same week.
Bring valid government-issued photo identification, and the unsigned document — affidavits and statutory declarations must be signed in front of the commissioner.
- Notarization and certified true copies of identification and other documents
- Commissioning of affidavits and statutory declarations
- Consent and travel letters
- Signature witnessing for documents used in Ontario and abroad
